In more signs that the narco-trade is extending its tentacles deep into Goa’s hinterland territory, the Anti-Narcotic Cell of the Goa Police on Sunday seized a substantial contraband of ganja in a raid at Vasantnagar, Sanquelim, incidentally the home turf of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
The ANC sleuths apprehended an Odisha native with ganja totally worth Rs 5.4 lakks in the raid. The raiding team raided the rented room at Vasantnagar in Sanquelim and found Ramesh Chandra (28) in illegal possession of 5.395 kgs of ganja. The raid was conducted in the intervening night of Saturday-Sunday and was closely supervised by Superintendent of Police (ANC) Utkrisht Prasoon, DySP ANC Mahesh Gaonkar and Police Inspector ANC Sudesh Velip. The raiding team was led by PSI Videsh Pilgaonkar. Chandra has been placed under arrest in police custody and slapped charges under section 20 (b) (ii) (B) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1986, and a judicial magistrate has remanded him to two days of police custody.
